Did you know that November is officially Entrepreneurship Month? Considering the fact that there are 28.8 million small businesses in this country, a month of celebrations is certainly well-deserved. I’m so grateful for national commemorations like Entrepreneurship Month and Small Business Saturday, which encourage people to shop small and support local.
As for me? Supporting small businesses is part of who I am.
You see, my entire family is comprised of small business owners. From electricians and art party hosts, to freelance designers and business consultants, self-employment is in my blood. So, its also no surprise why small businesses are also my favorite clients to work with. There’s something about entrepreneurs, and their fiery passion to succeed independently, that I just get on a deeply personal level.
All this talk of small businesses leads me to a very special announcement: Spelunk Jewelry is live! Spelunk is a handmade jewelry business that I’ve been helping out with for quite some time. The founder just so happens to be my sister, Alyssa (the most amazing metalsmith and jewelry designer you’ll ever meet.) We’ve spent countless hours brainstorming ideas and deciding how to build her brand, and I can’t believe that all her hard work is finally out in the world.
This project also helped me discover a love for writing product names and descriptions. I’ll admit it: I used to stray far, far away from product descriptions. I just thought they sounded so boring, but boy was I wrong. Who knew that something so “necessary” could be such a fun and creative challenge?
I’ve also started to realize just how important original product descriptions are. It seems like such a small detail – especially when it feels like your products have the character and charm to speak for themselves. However, I see product names and descriptions as one more opportunity to enhance your brand story and stand out from the crowd. In a saturated market like jewelry, the right descriptions couldn’t be more important.
Here are a few of my favorite products and descriptions from the Spelunk Jewelry collection.
